You got the species name right Vanessa virgiensis but the common name is American Lady NOT Painted Lady. enjoy your posts..
I really miss not getting a beautiful butterfly picture this year .. I don't know why they have not visited my garden .. were they here when I was not ? Darn !

Thank you for the correction. I am not a butterfly expert! I was using one of the kids' books on butterflies to identify it.

I thought they were American Painted Ladies. That's what I've called them. I'll have to look them up again in the book I use. I'll let you know what I find out (if I remember, my memory is getting bad).
I enjoyed your other butterfly and hibiscus photos, too.
