"I support local farms and food."

Local Food and Local Farms

Sadly, today was the last day of my local farmers' market in Summit, New Jersey. It was half-raining, half-sleeting and about 32 degrees, but my boys (ages 8 and 5) and I would not have missed it for anything. Tony and his faithful family from Vacchiano Farms with their fresh meat and produce were there. Brad and his faithful crew from Hoboken Farms with their specialty foods were there too. We will miss all of you until next June.

I have always been conscious about where the things that I buy come from, and understand that even spending a little more to buy things produced near you gives you greater gains in the long run. I have been recently making an even greater effort to buy local. My goal for 2009 is to buy at least 25% of my goods immediately local (w/in 100 miles), 50% relatively local (w/in state or from a neighboring state), 25% fairly local (made in the USA) and the rest from countries that produce humanely, environmentally and ethically. I plan on doing the best I can to track my purchases to see how well I can actually do.

Hi H.G how very sad for you...We have the same problem here. People wants to go to super Malls and do there shopping and that does kill all the small and local businesses.

I wish you and your family a joyful and Merry Christmas.

Ours closed much earlier than yours in late September. I was just thinking how hard it must be to give up summer when you all have so much longer to wait until spring.~~Dee

I am glad that you made it. My town is organizing to have a market next spring. I have my hopes up that it comes to be.
