Gardening Blogs and Groundhog Control: Garden Desk and Veggie Gardening Tips

In my ongoing research on how to fight my the battle with my next door neighbor's groundhog, I came across two blogs from experienced organic vegetable gardeners: Garden Desk (http://www.gardendesk.com/) and Veggie Gardening Tips (http://www.veggiegardeningtips.com/).

You can read two of their entertaining and informative groundhog posts here:

Veggie Gardening Tips talks with his groundhog (before trapping him/her) - http://www.veggiegardeningtips.com/conversations-with-a-woodchuck/#comment-55557

Follow-up: Doug over at Doug's Green Garden (http://blog.douggreensgarden.com/) just gave me another "organic" suggestion (no guns, poisons or traps) that we'll have to try -

The problem with groundhogs is that they're smarter than raccoons & skunks. How do I know? That's what ended up in the trap instead of the sneaky groundhog. I'd recommend a large hunting dog, a Borzoi or an Irish Wolfhound.

Mr. McGregor's Daughter,

You have groundhogs in addition to rabbits? Oh no! Do you have a dog and does it really keep the groundhog away? I notice that garden people seem to be more cat people than dog people (I have neither).

You might want to check out how I control them without traps, poisons, fences etc. A good bottle or three of beer and all is under control.

Doug,

I've wished I was in the country so I could have my husband use a gun...but maybe we'll try your "other" suggestion. If that works, we'll be indebted to you!
