Dried Annabelle Hydrangeas

I have several Annabelle hydrangeas on Goldberry Hill. During the summer, their large white mopheads look great both in the garden and brought indoors as cut flowers. As they age, they turn green and then brown. This summer, my friend P cut some of them when they were green, dried them at her home, and gave them to me as a present in the early winter. As you can see, they have retained their attractive green color.

For a prior post about their contribution to the garden in winter, click here: http://heirloomgardener.blogspot.com/2007/12/annabelle-hydrangea-in-winter.html.

We dried some hydrangea a couple years back and they did eventually turn brown but I'd more describe it as a gorgeous shade of vanilla. They did look best when there were subtle color changes throughout the bouquet though.

I was just reading about this tonight in one of my gardening magazines. I'm going to give it a go. They do make the best arrangements. They give you a lot of bang for the buck so to speak. Plus they look old fashioned.

I have become a huge fan of Hydrangea just this past summer .. Little Lamb totally "hooked" me and I have beautiful dried flowers from that wonderful shrub. This year I am determined to find Pinky Winky and look forward to those dried flower heads too. I'm sold on them !

Those hydrangeas are gorgeous and would make a great still life painting.

I love Annabelle hydrangeas. I wrote about them in my color post. Thank you for showing them to me dried. I'll do that at the end of next summer. They look so elegant on your table.~~Dee
